This week’s roundup of what’s shooting in Vancouver’s screen scene is filled with magic—of all different types.

A magical TV series returns for its fourth season while a brand new TV series featuring witches will shoot its pilot.

Meanwhile, a Netflix film, filled with the magic of the romance, has added some major stars who’ll have onlookers swooning.

Wanna know what’s going on? Well then, read on.

Keanu Reeves has joined the cast of the Vancouver-shot romcom Always Be My Maybe.

Starting on a traditional magical note, The Magicians are back and ready to shoot Season 4, starting today (June 11) and going until November 9.

The series, based on novels by Lev Grossman, follows Quentin Coldwater (Jason Ralph) and his friends who employ magical powers to protect a special world that evil beings are seeking destroy.

In addition to Ralph, the cast includes Stella Maeve, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta, Summer Bishil, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Jade Tailor, Brittany Curran, Rick Worthy, Trevor Einhorn, and more.

Season 3 followed the group on their quest to find the seven keys that would help restore magic to the world. But what how the outcome of that quest affect what happens in Season 4?

Well, we’ll just have to wait to find out when the next season premieres in 2019.

And even more magic is coming our way with the TV pilot for Motherland, which will shoot from July 9 to 26.

In the case, the magic users are an army—of witches.

This military fantasy drama, directed by Steven A. Adelson (Riverdale), is set in an alternate United States in which witches ended their persecution by agreeing to fight for the country. This arrangement led to a gender inversion, in which women are on the frontlines to fight terrorists with their supernatural powers.

The series follows three young women as they transition from basic training in combat magic to deployment at Fort Salem.

The cast hasn’t been announced yet but the executive producers include Adam McKay, Kevin Messick, and none other than funnyguy Will Ferrell (Daddy’s Home).

Elsewhere in the city, whether or not there’ll be magic in the feature drama 2 Hearts by Lance Hool (One Man’s Hero) remains to be seen, as details about the storyline haven’t been released yet unfortunately.

What we do know is that the production will shoot from Thursday (June 14) to July 28, and that the cast includes Radha Mitchell, Tahmoh Penikett, Adan Canto, Tiera Skovbye, Kari Matchett, and many more.

However, it seems likely that the magic of love—insert breathless sighs here—will be a part of the story…

That seems to also be the case with Always Be My Maybe, a new Netflix romcom being filmed with Fresh Off the Boat costars Ali Wong and Randall Park.

Ali and Park play childhood sweethearts who reconnect after 15 years as adults, and find that their lifestyles are wildly different: one is a celebrity chef and the other is a struggling musician still living at home.

Get ready to swoon again because joining the cast are two major Asian American heartthrobs: Keanu Reeves (John Wick) and Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-0).

The cast will also include Karan Soni, Charlyne Yi, Michelle Buteau, Vivian Bang, James Saito, Lyrics Born, and Susan Park.

The film, which started production back on May 28, will shoot until July 6.

Hopefully that’ll give stalkers—erm, fans of the stars enough time to try and catch a glimpse of them while they’re in town.

And in the meantime, happy star-spotting and stay tuned for more news from Hollywood North in the weeks to come.
