For our weekly roundup of what’s filming in Vancouver, sometimes there’s a common theme running through all the TV and film productions.

But this isn’t one of those weeks.

In fact, this week’s collection of screen productions wildly runs the gamut from a mystery-drama to a martial-arts action blockbuster to a musical fantasy dramedy TV series (now there’s something you don’t hear every day).

It’s quite the mix—but that’s the way things go when it comes to the entertainment industry.

So on that note, here’s a brief overview of what’s—and who’s—on set this week and in the weeks to come.

Could Henry Golding be coming to Vancouver to star in a film?

A new TV series, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, will shoot its first season from September 3 to January 30, 2020.

After shooting the pilot here in March, it was greenlit to become a series.

This dramedy that incorporates musicals and fantasy is centred around the titular Zoey Clarke (played by Jane Levy), a highly intelligent but socially awkward twentysomething computer coder who finds she has a secret and quite unusual ability.

She discovers she can hear the hidden desires of people around her.

It’s like telepathy but with a twist—she hears their thoughts as songs and even full-on musical numbers.

The cast that will star in this fanciful production includes Skylar Astin, Peter Gallagher, Alex Newell, John Clarence Stewart, Lauren Graham, and Mary Steenburgen.

Next month, a potential new TV series will be coming to town.

The TV pilot for Close Up will shoot from October 7 to 24.

This hour-long suspense-drama for Freeform is set in the seemingly ordinary suburban town of Centreville, New Jersey.

But a high school student sets out upon a missing to expose what the truth is about her hometown—and what she reveals will turn things upside down.

The cast hasn’t been announced yet so we’ll have to wait for word on who will be starring in the pilot.

And we’ll also have to wait to see if the pilot gets approved to become a full-fledged series as well.

Moving on to feature films, there’s an action blockbuster coming this way soon.

Yo, Joe fans—Snake Eyes will be shooting in Vancouver from October 15 to December 6.

Directed by Robert Schwentke (Allegiant), this G.I. Joe spinoff will focus on a ninja commando from the G.I. Joe team who dresses in all black, always keeps his face covered up, and never speaks.

His ninja nemesis is Storm Shadow, to be played by Andrew Koji (Warrior), who is also his blood brother.

In August, Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding was reportedly in talks to be the main star of the film.

But if Golding is cast, moviegoers won’t see his face since the character never does—but lucky Vancouverites might be able to spot Golding if he gets out and about.

However, we’ll have to wait for official confirmation who will play the role—and who else might be in the cast.

So there’s lots to look forward to—and we’ll have plenty more of what’s going on in the weeks to come.

Until we meet again, have fun Vancouver-spotting on a screen near you.
