The GOLD speaker series intended for youth, adult and senior audiences who are interested in art and learning about Inuit history and culture. In this series, Inuit artists and educators will share their individual work and speak about different Inuit cultural practices and traditions. This series is connected to the Vancouver Maritime Museum’s newest photography exhibit, Souls Ignited by Inuk artist, Cora DeVos.

This is the last session of the GOLD Series. For the last session, Cora DeVos, the artist who inspired this series and is behind the work presented in the Souls Ignited Exhibition, will lead an “Introduction to Portrait Photography” workshop for 19+ participants at the Vancouver Maritime Museum.

The workshop will begin with a short presentation by Cora on the work exhibited in Souls Ignited. We will learn about Cora’s process of taking the photos and find out more about the inspiration and reasons for these photographs. Following this, students will learn the basic steps of how to take portrait photographs including motion and angles, and then practice the techniques they have learned by taking photos of each other in different environments (inside and outside). To participate in this workshop, you will only need to bring a device that can take pictures (phones will work too)!
